D.I.Y Under the Sea Octopus Decoration!

As you all know from one of my previous blog posts, Tristan is turning 4 next week and loves sealife so we decided to use that as his party theme! Pinterest has a few of these DIY Octopuses, but I absolutely love the idea and so I decided to make one too! The great thing about this craft is that you can make your Octopus as short or as long as you want, pop it on the wall or over the door, you could even make your Octopuses legs touch the floor and make a cool door curtain… The possibilities are endless! The things you will need for this DIY are;

  • Card/Cardstock (or like I used, a Pizza Box!)
  • Coloured Paper/Normal Paper
  • Paint
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • and Blu-Tack

Step 1 – Take your card (or in my case a Pizza Box!) and roughly draw out the shape of an octopus head. It doesn’t need to be perfect as you will be cutting it out and can change it then if you need to.

Step 2 – Use the Pizza Saver out of the box and draw around it roughly where you want the Octopuses eyes to be.

Step 3 – Cut out your Octopus head, don’t worry if its not perfect!

Step 4 – Choose whatever colour you want to use (we created our own pink to match the coloured paper we are using) and paint the Octopus. We did 2 coats to get our desired look.

Step 5 – Then paint your black circles for the Octopus eyes then once they are dry, cut out a circle of white paper (I used a 1″ circle cutter) and glue where you would like his eyes to be.

Step 6 – Paper Chains! Make 8 paper chains as your Octopuses legs and use as many lengths as you would like. We used 9 as we didn’t want them to be too dangly!

Step 7 – Time to put it all together! If you would like to staple your legs in place on your octopuses head you can do so now, or you can Blu-tack it all in place on the wall or above your door frame like above and Tah-Dah!! Your Octopus is now complete!!

I really hope you enjoyed this DIY, I’d love to see your makes and if you have any ideas you would like me to try out, please let me know. Thank you so much for reading my blog 🙂

Sending Love

Thank you! I really hope they enjoy it, especially as you can make it whichever way your imagination takes you ❤️ my eldest asked to make it rainbow, but birthday boy wanted all pink 🙂 x
